What to do when you have a stay visa valid for 30 days but decide to come back after it expires

I applied for a 30 day stay visa in China. But have decided to go back home for 2 months then come back to China. Do I have to start the whole process from scratch before I go back to China?

Yes. Technically speaking the visa itself only authorizes you to apply for a residence permit in 30 days (and NOT a 30 days' stay) and if you have not done so then that is a potential problem for immigration at some places, although the epidemic will be taken into account.
