About:China Student Visa

L to X1

I suppose this has been asked a million times but since regulations always change I would like to ask too!
I've been admitted by a university and I'll get an x1 visa (a few days before the semester starts) but I plan to enter earlier and travel a bit with an L visa. Is it possible to change it within China, in Beijing? Or it's mandatory to exit?

Yes, it's possible to change the L visa to an X1 visa. However, I think you can directly apply for an X1 visa. After you get it, the visa is valid for entering China, so you can enter China before the semester starts.
