Am I wasting my time

Hello there - I was born 8th Nov 1961 in Australia and he was born 26 Feb 1962 in Ghana. Is there anything I can do to improve our connection as I often feel chastised by my friend, which makes it difficult to share my feelings or to be open with him. Thank you for your help 🙏
