About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do we need a visa?

I am traveling from the United Kingdom to New Zealand, and have a 16 hour layover in Shanghai. We will not be going outside of Shanghai. Will we be able to leave the airport without a visa?

Shanghai immigration will need to see a hotel reservation. If you don't have one then you will be refused entry. Most Chinese airlines offer free hotels for long layovers, however.
