hkg-gz-hkg same day travel

Question

My client is Australian passport holder, now in Bangkok, will fly back to Hong Kong tonight at mid night time, then have an important meeting tomorrow at Guangzhou by noon.  Will come back to Hong Kong by evening same day tomorrow.  His Chinese Visa has expired.  Can he apply for 24 hours visa free transit?  How to do that?

Hong Kong-Guangzhou-Hong Kong is a visit to China, not a transit, and requires a visa. For visa-free transit Hong Kong-Guangzhou-Macao or vice versa would work.

Sorry that is not possible without a visa. He will need to continue to third country before returning to HK. Like maybe fly to Guangzhou then fly to Macau then take ferry back to HK.
