You just need a slight change of your itinerary to be eligible. In reality, the only option you can use to travel from Shenzhen to Hong Kong while on 144 hour visa free transit is by ferry from Shenzhen Shekou port to Hong Kong. You will have to book a ferry ticket online, in advance through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger transport company website. You will book a ticket for the route Shenzhen Shekou to Hong Kong Macau ferry terminal. After you have booked your ticket, you will receive an e-confirmation that you will print out and bring it with you. This e-confirmation will be your proof that you will be in a real transit and also you will use it to collect your real, paper ferry ticket at Shekou terminal. Please, have in mind that you have to stay within Guangdong province for at least 25 hours to be eligible for this 144 hour visa free transit option. Also, you will have to use exactly that ferry you have bought your tickets for.
