Beatriz, it would be great if you have written where in China will you have your transit and if you will have one or more stops within China. Like this, you have left us guessing. OK, I will assume that you will have just one landing somewhere and that it is your only stop. If this is the case, you will be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa.
You will print out your flight tickets and bring those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in Frankfurt that you will travel to Australia via China using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short check of your tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane. You will also inform yourself about the luggage policy, although if you are traveling on a single ticket, your luggage will be probably tagged all the way to Australia. Anyway, you should ask for this detail, just for a case.
Upon your arrival in China, you will approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport. Please, keep in mind that the issuing of this permit depends entirely upon discretion of immigration authorities. You are advised to book at least some simple accommodation and to bring a confirmation of this fact as a printout. If you will be granted a permit, you will explore the city and have a rest in your accommodation.
You really don't need a visa, but if you want to be 100% certain that you will be allowed to exit the airport in China, you can obtain a G visa. If you ask me, this is not a good investment. Just travel 24 hour TWOV and you will be fine.
