tourist visa for British passport resident in HK

I have a British passport and am a resident in HK. I've been to Shenzhen on single entry visas obtained at the border previously but want to apply for a multi-entry visa. I won't need accommodation or to book travel (mtr from HK) - how does this work for the visa application?
Can I apply for the 2 yr or 10 yr multi-entry visa straight away?

Hannah, as you have a residence card of HK, I think it's ok to submit the visa application even if you don't have hotel bookings. However, be careful that the immigration officer may suspect that you are working illegally in China. It's possible for you to get a 2 yr multiple-entry visa.
