About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Budapest - Shanghai - Brisbane 24 hours visa-free transit

Hello,

so we are traveling (3 people with Slovak passport) with China Eastern Airlines from Budapest (BUD) via flight MU870 to Shanghai (PVG) on Jan 8, 2020. Our stop in Shanghai will take 16 hours and after that we will take the next flight MU715 via the same airline company to Brisbane (BNE).

The return flight MU716 will departure on Jan 23, 2020 from Brisbane to Shanghai, where we will have 5 hours stop and then we board the flight MU869 to Budapest (again both flights are provided by China Eastern Airlines).

So if I understand it correctly, I don't need any kind of visa, we will be eligible to use Shanghai's 24 hours visa-free entry? Also we are not interested in visiting the city, we will stay at airport in Shanghai.
We will need just our tickets, passports and in Budapest we ask for a 24 hours transit at check-in, also ask how will be our luggage handled (we will probably take our luggage at Brisbane, because we have a single ticket flight?). Is this correct? Or we don't even need the 24 hours visa-free transit? Any other stuff we should worry about?

Thank you really much for answers.

Yes, your understanding is exactly correct. If you don't want to leave the airport, you don't even need to apply for the 24h visa-free transit.

Thank you really much for the answer. I appreciate it.

The last thing I have to figure out is how to do an online check-in with China Eastern. It seems like it's not working and I have to do a check-in at airport.

Erik, you will hardly receive an answer to such a question because this is definitely and entirely a question for an airline and not for a forum that deals with visa free transit subjects. By the way, since you will travel using visa free transit, I advise you to make a conventional check-in because you will have to declare your visa free transit intentions to a real person.

Zupan, yes I know, I was more like writing down what I was thinking, but thanks for all the advice. We will do a check-in at the airport in Budapest. Then hopefully all go as it should go and there will be zero problems on our route.

It's kind of a scary route for me, mostly because I am the only one from our group speaking English and I never left Europe. So I never had to do any special procedures in before the flight except online check-in. We just have to go through Shanghai and we are good I guess.

Trust me, this is easier and more straightforward than you think. Just relax and have a peace of mind because this is nothing unusual. You will just declare at check-in in Budapest that you will travel to Brisbane via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. You will also print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. This will be just fine, have confidence :)

Thank you one more time for encouraging words Zupan. I will think about them during the flight :)
