About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Does the 144-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai apply?

Could you please advise if the 144 hour visa free transit would apply in the following circumstance, for the follow visit to SH in February 2020.
The trip is for holidays.
My wife and I are Australian passport holders and we will be flying into SH from Brisbane.
We stay one night then embark on a cruise ship for 5 nights around Japan.
We then return to SH and spend two nights in SH before flying back to Brisbane

Just make sure your flights do not go through Japan or any other Chinese cities then you qualify for 144 hour visa free transit on the way to and from Japan.

We have the same question, we will be in the same cruise ship I believe.
Are you guys doing Royal Caribbean? Feb 13th?
