About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling from UK to Hong Kong onto Shanghai back to Hong Kong (separate ticket) back to UK

Travelling from UK to Hong Kong where I will be staying for 3 nights, I then travel onto Shanghai for 2 nights back to Hong Kong (separate ticket), I do not leave the airport in Hong Kong but travel back to UK via Dubai. Can I use the 72 hour visa in Shanghai?
Thank you

You need a tourist (L) visa. Hong Kong-Shanghai-Hong Kong is obviously not a transit to a third country.

If you are a British citizen, the visa will cost you £151 minimum. You might be able to change your flight to fly Hong Kong-Shanghai-Dubai-UK, which would not require a visa.
