About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Philippine Passport holder transitting from US to Philippines via Shanghai

I will be flying in from Los Angeles to Cebu City Philippines and will have a 17 hour layover within the same day only. Do I still need to present an accommodation at Shanghai as a requirement for entry or a temporary entry permit? Or will my ticket details do?

You are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Anyway, to be allowed to exit the airport, you will have to book your accommodation in advance and to arrive at Shanghai airport with the printout where your accommodation booking will be clearly presented. Of course, you will apply for a temporary entry permit at 24 hour visa free transit counter upon your landing in Shanghai. It appears that the policy in Shanghai is quite strict - no accommodation, no temporary entry permit.
