Hi,
Thanks for providing such detailed and helpful info on your website. I have a quick question about traveling within China without a passport.

I visited the Entry and Exit Bureau in Beijing today to apply for my resident permit. They will keep my passport until mid-January but have given me a yellow form that can be used for domestic travel and hotel registration. The yellow form is titled "Visa/Stay Permit/ Resident Permit Application Receipt" and has all of my passport info. They mentioned that I can use this to travel by train within China but were not sure about air travel. Do you know if this can be used for flights? I'm supposed to fly to ChengDu on January 1st. Thanks!

According to the CAAC the receipt cannot be used for flights unless it has your photo and an official stamp on it.
