X1 visa no residence permit

Hello,
I joined my university very late due to visa problems out of my control. When I came settling in was very hectic and I was left to my own devices. I am on a X1 visa and was not told about the residence permit by my uni because I was late. I was recently told my a student. It is now 2 months since I’ve been here in China. I am really anxious and afraid as to what I should do. My visa expires on the 9th of January (passport) I am leaving for holiday on the 8th? Can I apply for a new visa in the UK once I get there to finish my studies? What should I do? I had to catch up on all my lectures, revise for exams and was not even told about registering or things like that. Any advice ?

You won't be allowed to board your flight as you are now in China unlawfully. Go to the local National Immigration Administration office ASAP and tell them your case, then apply for an exit visa. You will be liable for a fine of CNY 10,000 plus associated costs for an exit visa. (Keep in mind that, although unlikely, there is a possibility for administrative detention for up to 15 days in place of the fine.) Your study plan will unfortunately be interrupted as the embassy in London will scrutinize your application before they decide whether to grant another X1 visa and that can take a few weeks.
