US green card holder applying for Tourist Visa

Hi! I am a green card holder in the US (permanent resident) and I have a Philippine passport. I live near Los Angeles, California and I plan to apply for a tourist visa. I talked to a travel agency and they were requiring me to submit my original green card to their office because they said that they needed it to complete the process. I am a little worried so I decided that I will just go to the consulate myself. Do you know if I will only present the original copy of my green card at the consulate or will they take it from me while waiting for 4 days to get a decision?

Dear, the consulate will take the original copy of your green card and keep it while you are waiting for the visa application result.

Brenda, thanks! Just curious if you’ve had the same experience? I was reading the instructions from the Chinese Consulate website and it looks like they only needed a copy?
