About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Macao passport holder with USA green card residence

I am traveling from USA to Shanghai to Philippines to Macau to Japan to USA. The Shanghai stop is about 29+ hours until my next flight to the Philippines. Will I have a Visa free transit apply to me during my travels through Shanghai OR would I need to pay for a China Visa? I do not see Macau on the list for the 240 Hour visa free and my stay is over the 24 hour period.

The main issue here is the fact that you are a Chinese citizen - Macau resident (Macau passport holder) and consequently you can enter mainland China only by holding your Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Resident, so called Home Return Permit. Also, as a Macau passport holder you are not eligible for 24/240 hour visa free transit as are the foreigners since you are formally not a foreigner. Also, you cannot obtain a mainland Chinese visa, again, because you are a Chinese citizen. Your best option is to contact the nearest Chinese diplomatic mission and to ask to obtain a one-time exit-entry permit. This is also hit and miss situation because this kind of permit is usually issued to those returning to your homeland. In any case, you should contact the nearest Chinese diplomatic mission and ask for a solution. I am sorry for not being able to offer you some, easier option. I hope this helps at least a bit.
