About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

On US passport, travel from US to Vietnam to Shanghai (for < 144 hrs) and back to US...

... trying to confirm that the Shanghai visit is covered by the 144 visa free transit and that a full China visa is not required. Please confirm.

That is the case if Shanghai is your only stop within Mainland China.

Thx... my only other stop (at start of trip) is Hong Kong, which I understand is not deemed part of the Mainland for visa purposes...
