About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I fly from Brisbane to Shanghai day 1 then 4 nights in Shanghai and fly back to Brisbane on day 5

I am then in Brisbane for two months and fly to New Zealand for 2 weeks - does this qualify for the 144 hour transit visa please?

You need a tourist (L) visa or different flights. Australia-Shanghai-Australia is not a transit to a third country, it's a visit to China.
