Visit HK prior to business trip in Shenzhen

Hi, i am applying for a one year multi entry business visa starting as of January 13th 2020 (initial arrival date in Shenzhen and beginning of my business trip). I am interested in changing my flights to arrive few days before and visit Hong Kong the week-end before. Can i use the 114 hour transit visa in order to enter Shenzhen and take a ferry to HK? I would then come back on the 13th. Thanks!!

Unfortunately, you are not eligible to travel on any kind of visa free transit between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The only possible way is to apply and obtain a 5 day Shenzhen visa on arrival at one of three eligible crossings between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The price for a Shenzhen VOA is 168 CNY for French citizens. Anyway, if your business visa will be valid from January 13, you cannot stay in Shenzhen until 13, but you have to leave it at least on January 12 at 23:59. The reason is simple. You cannot have two concurrent valid Chinese visas in your passport.

Also, it is highly questionable whether the Chinese immigration will issue to you a 5 day Shenzhen VOA because of the fear that you will not leave Shenzhen until the deadline and in your case it is not 5 days of visa on arrival validity, but as I have previously mentioned, January 12 at 23:59. I cannot take a firm stance, but I'm almost definitely convinced that if you arrive at the border crossing after January 7, you will be denied a Shenzhen VOA. Why January 7? The reason is simple. If you arrive on January 7, you have to leave on January 12 at 23:59 because this visa expires a minute before the new one becomes valid.
