Hello, I am a United States citizen traveling from the USA TO Sidney, Australia trough Beijiing,

I am a United States citizen traveling from the USA to Sidney, Australia. I will be arriving in Beijiing on April 14, and leaving Beijing on April 20th for Sidney. Am i eligible for 144 hours visa free entry and if not what visa category would i be considered?

If you don't have any additional stop within mainland China beside Beijing, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. You are allowed to travel throughout the area of Beijing city, Tianjin city and Hebei province. This area alone has roughly a 1/3 of entire US population :)
