The most important detail is that your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa.
You will print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. Also, you will declare in San Francisco that you will travel to Jakarta via China using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection of your tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane. One more important detail. Here you will ask whether your luggage will be tagged all the way to Jakarta. If you are flying on a single (through) ticket, this will be a case almost for certain, but you should ask just for a case. I think that you will travel on a single ticket by China Southern, so this should be just fine.
Upon arrival in Wuhan, you will approach 24 hours visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to proceed your travel because the section of your itinerary between Wuhan and Guangzhou is considered a domestic one. You will also clear other formalities in Wuhan and will continue on the same plane and under the same flight number to Guangzhou.
Upon arrival in Guangzhou, you can remain at the airport, but you can also explore a city for a short time and you should also ask from China Southern to provide you with a free accommodation in Guangzhou because they doing that for passengers with layovers longer than 8 hours. After your stay in Guangzhou, you will just proceed to your flight to Jakarta.
