About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Extend stay after entering on a 144 hour travel visa?

If I enter Chengdu or Kunming on a 144 hour transit visa, would it be possible to apply for a regular 30 day tourist visa after already entering China at a government office or local travel agency? Although I have time within 6 days, there are some places that are outside the administrative zones allowed by the 144 hour transit visa.

You cannot. A decision of extending a visa will usually take a week or longer and your permission to stay will have been expired which makes you removable from the country. Also those entering the country on visa waivers are automatically ineligible to apply for an extension unless due to situations beyond their control.
