Extension of visa with amendments

Hi, my son is on a six month student visa & wants to extend this to a year and also to multiple entry. Is this possible to do in china

If he has sufficient proof to say that he needs to stay longer in China, it's possible o extend his visa, but he cannot change a single entry visa to a multiple entry visa within China.
