About:China Visa on Arrival

Xiamen VOA Ferry port

We are Austrian (not Australia!!) citizens and want to get in China from the port (Not Airport!) in Xiamen. Country of departure is Taiwan and we want to exit China to Laos (Mohan). Can we do a Visa on arrival at the sea port, when we arrive with the ferry?

No, you cannot obtain a Xiamen VOA because this VOA option is a relic of the history. There is no Xiamen VOA at all any more. Chinese authorities have abolished this VOA in favor of visa free transit scheme. Theoretically, if you intend to use 24 hour visa free transit, you could really travel visa free from Taiwan to Laos, but your itinerary would have to be done within 24 hours from your scheduled arrival in Xiamen, until your final departure from China. In other words, you would have to fly from Xiamen to Laos through some other Chinese city that has direct connections with Laos airports, but your entire trip should not have a single minute more than 24 hours! By the way, you are not allowed to take an overland route!
