does the six month validity apply for passengers in transit

We have a US passport & we have a 20 hour layover in Beijing coming back from Bombay our final destination is US. we are arriving on march 30th 2020 & our passports expire in August 2020 does the six month validity apply for passengers in transit . We are planing to stay at hotel in Beijing for our lay over period.

The six month validity does not apply for passengers in transit, but your passport should be valid for at least three months by the time you transit in Beijing. In your case, your passports are absolutely fine.
