About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Stopover stopover

Is it possible to apply for the transit without a visa in the following circumstances?

Amsterdam-Shanghai
Shanghai-Dubai-amsterdam

I know it is an a-b-c example but does that count for flights with a stopover of only a couple of hours? And what if I print my return ticket as if I am staying in Dubai, would that help?

It doesn't matter how long you spend in Dubai. As soon as you board your flight in Shanghai, Chinese immigration have no interest at all in what you do next. Just make sure your Amsterdam to Shanghai flight does not also stop in Dubai, and that your passport is from one of the 53 listed countries if you are staying longer than 24 hours in China.
