About:Visa on Arrival

VOA for 5 days for Austrians coming from Thailand directly

Hi, I just booked a flight from Chiang mai to Shenzhen. I assumed I can get the visa on arrival at the airport since I didn't plan to visit Hong Kong. Can I enter or is my money for the flight lost,or will I be sent back?

Part one:

You cannot rely on Shenzhen VOA because tehre is no Shenzhen VOA office at the airport. Unfortunately, this website is not upodated. Anyway, your money is not lost because with just a bit of creativity, you will enjoy your time.

You will do the following:

- Book a ferry ticket through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger transport website for a ferry from Shenzhen Shekou to Hong Kong Macau ferry terminal. Please, keep in mind that your ferry has to depart from Shenzhen at least 25 hours after your scheduled plane arrival in Shenzhen. Like this, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you can enjoy your time within the entire Guangdong province.
- After your booking, you will receive an e-confirmation for your ferry and you will print out this e-confirmation and bring that printout with you.
- You will declare at check-in in Chiang Mai that you will travel to Hong Kong via Shenzhen using 144 hour visa free transit. If you encounter an unexperienced airport staff member, you will just point him/her to Timatic or, if necessary, you will ask for their superior. You will be allowed to board the plane.

Part two:

- Upon arrival in Shenzhen, you will approach 144 hour visa free transit counter where you will fill out a blue form. Shortly after, you will get a sticker in your passport and be allowed to exit the airport.
- You can stay in Gunagdong province for up to 144 hours and then you will take your ferry to Hong Kong. Please, have in mind that you will really have to take exactly that ferry that you have bought your ticket for, so plan well ahead which one will you take.
- After you have arrived in Hong Kong, you can return back to Shenzhen by ferry or overland where you will apply for a Shenzhen VOA. Like this, you will get 5 more days, but with this visa only within Shenzhen boundaries.
- Finally, you will take a plane back to Thailand.

As you can see, this is your by far the best solution. You just need to be a citizen of 53 eligible countries. Austrians are eligible.
