F visa application necessary for Austrian doing 12 days scientific exchange visit?

Hello, I am Austrian citizen working in a Norwegian Research Institution (Marine Science) and have been invited for a 12 days scientific exchange visit to two Chinese institutions (Guangdong Ocean University and Marine Biological Museum, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qingdao) in coming November 2024. Will I have to prepare a specific application for a F visa to do this visit or can I make use of the visa waiver program? Also, for the case that an application is required, what are the costs?

I think you need to apply for a F visa for the scientific exchange visit. The visa fee is 45 euros and the service fee 66, 111 euros in total. It's advised to consult the Embassy to ensure that you do need a F visa.
