About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa for China in Guangzhou

Hello, tell me please. I'm from Kazakhstan. I have two separate tickets.
1 - Nur Sultan 12/31/19 at 22.30 - Beijing 01/01/20 at 08.00 (change) - Guangzhou 01/01/20 at 11.30.
I will need to go out in Guangzhou airport to pick up my luggage and register for a 2 - ticket.
2 - Guangzhou 01/01/20 at 22.40 - Phuket 02/01/20 at 00.50.
Do I need a Chinese visa?
The stay in two Chinese cities is less than 24 hours.
Will I have problems in customs in Guangzhou?
I am flying with a child and am very afraid to run into problems in China.
Thank you.

Irina, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit because your entire transit time will be definitely less than 24 hours. Also, you don't need any kind of visa.

You will print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in Nur-Sultan that you will travel to Phuket visa China using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection, you will be allowed to board the plane. Here you will have to ask whether your luggage will be tagged all the way to Guangzhou or not. Be prepared to hear an answer that you will have to collect your luggage already in Beijing, but I really cannot confirm this detail.

Upon your arrival in Beijing, you will immediately approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit. It will be definitely granted to you because your next flight is a domestic one.

You will proceed to Guangzhou where you will collect your luggage and will perform new check-in for your flight to Phuket. Nothing so complicated, you will be granted a temporary entry permit, but you will have to be quite fast in Beijing because your layover is quite short. It is good that you are flying on a single (through) ticket.

So, you will clear the entry immigration in Beijing because the Chinese rules specify that the passengers entering China clear the immigration at the first entry point. There is no reason to worry about the formalities and your main goal has to be fast enough in Beijing to successfully catch your onward flight to Guangzhou. In Guangzhou, after you accomplish your check-in, you will clear the exit immigration and you will be allowed to wait for your flight to Phuket.
