Hotel stays

My friend and I are eligible for the 144 hour visa free tour, but I'm wondering if we are supposed to have a hotel for every night. We plan to stay the first night at a hotel, but we thought we would wait in the airport on our second night as we fly out at 220am the next morning. Is that okay? Or do we need a hotel for that second night too?
