Do I need visa for overnight stay in hotel ?

Hi I am travelling to india from Canada. I am PERMANENT resident in Canada. I have 18 hours layover at Shanghai airport. I have 2 kids with me and I want to book a hotel by the airport. Do I need visa to go into the hotel ? Please advise .thx

You don't need a visa if your transit is under 24 hours.
Just print out the hotel reservation and apply for a temporary permit when you arrive in Shanghai.

But beware there's no guarantee to get the permit but with a layover of 18 hours and a confirmed hotel reservation, you should be fine.
