About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Connecting flights

Hello, when I flew into Asia from Canada I had a few days in Shanghai using the 144 visa free with no issues. On my way back (6 months later) our flight looks like SIN-PEK (separate flight operator) for a 4 day stay (may not use the 144 hour stay but have to leave airside in order to check in for the other flight) then PEK-CTU (24 hour layover but fine if we dont leave the airport)-TNA-LAX. Is this acceptable? is there any issues with having a connecting flight within China after using a 144 hour visa exemption?

Two consecutive stops in different cities (Beijing, Chengdu) automatically limits you to 24 hours visa-free transit. 144 hours does not apply. There is no "I'm not leaving the airport" exemption.

So that means if our layover is 25 hours in chengdu, the only option is to do an actual visa for China? That is a lot of work for Canadians right now!

Ir's 24 hours in total, from scheduled arrival time in Beijing to scheduled departure time from Chengdu. You either need a visa or you must change your flights to have only one stop in China.
