Wanting to move to china -> what kind of visa ?

Hello, due to personal life issues I have decided to move to Beijing China (not permanently but maybe 6 months or so depending what I can do) the only thing is I obviously can't just book a flight from Europe and go there without a plan but I want to know if even without a detailed itinerary and without planning to study, I am still allowed to apply for a visa (tourist or maybe work visa depending if I find work before hand) or if they won't allow me to go and "start a new life" there basically (I can speak Chinese so I am hoping this wont be a complete failure).
Also is it possible to book just a one way ticket to China ?
This doesn't have much to do with the Hainan free visa but I am just curious and as you can see also quite desperate.

Kayla, you are kindly advised to re post your very nice and logical post in the visa section of this quite complex website. I'm afraid that you will not get the best answer on this portion that mostly handles the questions regarding visa free transit and visas on arrival in and through China.

I'm more than certain that you will get a great answer in the mentioned section where very knowledgeable people answer this type of questions. I really wish you all the best and a huge success :)
