About:Xiamen Travel

We are holding a Canadian passport, cruise is with Holland America.

There are 2 ports of call in China for this itinerary. First is Xiamen (same day transit) and right after, Shanghai is the second port of call staying for 2 days. Do we need a Chinese Tourist Visa if we plan NOT to book a cruise tour with Holland America? Can we still use the 72 hour or 144 hour transit Visa Free policy? Thank you.
