About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Proposed travel plan

does this itinerary work for 144hr for Guangzhou and 72 for beijing visa free (american citizen)

Chicago ---> Guangzhou for 2-3 days---> manila philpines
then after few days we go from manila ---> beijing for 1-2 day----> Minneapolis

It works if those are the only stops in China. It's 144 hours in both Guangzhou and Beijing now, not 72.
