About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit through Fuzhou (FOC) airport

Hi! I hold an Indian passport and I would be travelling from India to Canada. I have multiple stops in China (KMG->FOC->PVG). They are less than 24 hours but since FOC is one of the transit airports, I realize I need a transit visa. However I have the same flight and a 45 minutes stop at FOC. Do I still need a transit visa?

It is really hard to answer you and not to create you a potential problem. In reality and based on relevant first hand experiences, Fuzhou airport should not be a problem, especially because you use it between two mainland Chinese airports. In other words, you will not perform any kind of immigration or any other formality there beside probably a security check. So, this flight should be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, but the problem may occur in India because if an airport staff take a look at Timatic and they probably will, they will realize that Fuzhou airport is not eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. Unfortunately, it will be hard to convince them that you will not apply for a single thing there because you will perform all the necessary entry formalities in Kunming where you will be granted a temporary entry permit that allows you to exit the airport and to continue your travel on domestic flight segments. If the staff in India thinks about this logic, they will definitely allow you to board the plane and after that you will be perfectly fine. Anyway, there is nobody who can guarantee that the Indian airport staff will allow you to board the plane because they will see Fuzhou as ineligible airport in Timatic.

Now, you understand why did I start my post in the way I did. Your itinerary is eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, but you have great chance not to be allowed to board the plane and you cannot even sue them because they will always refer to Timatic as their source.

In other words, it is up to you to decide whether you are willing to take a chance or you will invest in a Chinese transit (G) visa that you should obtain it in advance.
