About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 hours in Beijing arriving from Japan and to go back to Japan to return to Italy

Good morning.
In January I will go to Beijing for less then 72hours.
I'm Italian and I will arrive in Beijing from Japan.
In less then 72h I will leave to return in Italy, but with 3 different flight (one back to Japan, one for Warsaw and the last one for Milan).

My Itinerary is:
Milan->Warsaw(2h) -> Tokyo (11days) -> Beijing (3days) -> Tokyo (15hours) ->Warsaw(2hours) -> Milan.

May I use this 72 hour free transit?

Thanks

Unfortunately not because of this segment:

Tokyo (11days) -> Beijing (3days) -> Tokyo (15hours)

As you can see, this is a round trip and not a transit. The rule says that the immediate cities before and after your Chinese destination have to be in different countries and your immediate cities, in reality the same city, Tokyo is in one, same country - Japan.

If you want to retain this itinerary, you will have to obtain a Chinese transit (L) visa in advance or to rearrange your flights, if possible.

By the way, 72 hour visa free transit has been replaced in Beijing by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago.

Sorry.
