About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

144 h VISA and hotel booking

We got this message from a hotel after we booked it, but we thought we only needed the 144 h "VISA" travelling from Sweden-SH-New Zealand stopping in SH for 48 h. "According to the law of EXIT&ENTRY ADMINISTRATION MINISTRY of PUBLIC SECURITY OF SHANGHAI, all tourists must check-in and register on the Reception with the valid visa. If not, you should bear all the responsibility. The hotel will not accept reservations with 144-hour transit visa-free from now on".

There are several accommodations in Shanghai that really do not accept guests traveling on 144 hour visa free transit and the names of those places were circulating on this forum. You will not accomplish anything by discussing with them about the fact that they are awfully wrong, so the best option is to cancel your booking there and to find another accommodation option. There are plenty of them in Shanghai. Just be relaxed.
