About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Hong Kong resident flying from Shenzhen

Hi,
I live in HK but with all the airport unrest I am investigating booking from Shenzhen to Australia (and returning through Shenzhen). From my reading, it looks like I would need to apply for VOA to enter Shenzhen and then if I booked a ferry from Shenzhen to Hong Kong I could use the 144 hour transit visa. Do I have this correct? I'm on an Australian passport. Regards, Christy

Yes, you understand everything perfectly.

You really can take a flight from Shenzhen, but as Australian citizens, you will have to apply for a 5 day Shenzhen VOA (the price for Australian citizens is 168 CNY).

To come back to Hong Kong from Shenzhen, you will use 144 hour visa free transit. You will have to book a ferry from Shenzhen Shekou port to Hong Kong through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger transport website to obtain an e-confirmation that you will print out and have that print out with you. Also, to be allowed to use 144 hour visa free transit, the departure of your ferry from Shenzhen has to be at least 24 hour and 1 minute after your scheduled arrival in Shenzhen by plane from Australia. Also, you need to take exactly that ferry you have bought your ticket for. This implies that you will have to have an overnight in Shenzhen. This is not a problem at all, but it requires some preparations and a good plan. Nothing more than that.
