About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

AUS to TOKYO. TOKYO to SHANGHAI. SHANGHAI back to SYDNEY

Would This route allow me to get the 144hr free visa if I am of Australian citizenship? For the last bit shanghai is the middle country from Japan back home to Sydney

Australia > Japan > Shanghai > Australia allow visa free transit.

Australia > Japan > Shanghai > Japan > Australia requires a visa.

Country immediately before and after Shanghai just cant be the same country.
