About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

How long in Beijing if I arrive on a connecting flight? RGN - CAN (1h45 layover) - PEK - LON

Hi there,

Our original travel plans were to travel from Yangon - HK - Beijing - LON on the 72 hour visa waiver before connecting back to London. However with the troubles in HK we are considering skipping HK, extending our trip to Myanmar by 2-3 days and flying going straight to Beijing. However the flight from Yangon - Beijing has a stopover in CAN. How does this impact the 72/144 hour visa waiver arrangement in Beijing ? Can we still take the trip without a visa?

Many thanks
Stephanie

Unfortunately, not. If you have two consecutive stops within mainland China, you are automatically limited to 24 hour visa free transit and that means that your travel plans will be definitely ruined.

If I were you I would not skip Hong Kong at all. There is no reason to do that especially if your layover in Hong Kong is from Monday to Friday period. Anyway, if you insist to skip Hong Kong, you can use Bangkok instead.

By the way, if you retain Hong Kong and I hope you will, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing. 72 hour visa free transit has been replaced in Beijing by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago.
