Two separate tickets eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai?

Dear Travel China Guide,

If I were to purchase two separate tickets, i.e., one from Osaka to Shanghai, then two days later, another from Shanghai to New York, would this still be eligible for the visa free transit?

Note the airline for the two flights are different and are not bought on the same day. So, they are two separate tickets. South Korean citizen.

Please advise. Thank you.

You are definitely allowed to book and to fly on two separate tickets and also to enjoy 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area. It is also fine if those tickets were bought on different dates. You should only take care that you have both of your tickets (in reality a simple printouts of your e-tickets) in your hand at check-in in Osaka.
