About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Entry to Guangzhou via train

Hi,

thank you for the great website.

I'm wondering if it is possible to get the 144-hour visa exemption if you enter Guangzhou by train from Hongkong, and then leave by plane within the 144-hour time period?

Also, are flights to or from Taiwan eligible for this rule?

Many thanks

Steven

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take a train from Hong Kong to Guangdong province under visa free transit policy. The only way to enjoy visa free transit in Guangdong province, if departing from Hong Kong, is to take a direct flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. Also, after that, you are not allowed to return directly to Hong Kong, but you have to take a ferry from Shenzhen Shekou port to Macau first and then from Macau to Hong Kong. Of course, you can proceed from Guangdong province by plane to some other country.

Flights to and from Taiwan are perfectly eligible for 24/72/144 hour visa free transit because Taiwan is considered as a third country for visa free transit purposes.
