About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visit by cruise ship.

My cruise ship will port in shangai 48 hours and also Pekin and Dalian for 48 hrs and 12 hrs respectively. I'm USA citizen. Do I need visa? I just plan to stay visit inside these cities, not go out to rural areas. Thanks.

This is not eligible for the 24/72/144 hour options. What you are looking for is the 15 day cruise transit without visa. If you arrive in Shanghai by boat and are received by registered Chinese travel agency like Travel China Guide, and leave mainland China on the same boat then you qualify.
