About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai 144hrs in transit visa free online application

Hi,
I’ planning to travel from Toronto >Argentina>Singapore>Shanghai>Toronto in January. Do I have to have confirmed onward tickets to apply online for Shanghai airport? If I get pre approval, do I still have to apply in person at airport? If I don’t get approve, does that mean I will not be able to apply in-transit free visa ever again?
Ps:
I was a Chinese citizen, now became a Canadian citizen. Will this make me harder to get approval of the in- transit visa?

That's not exactly a pre-approval system but an online form for you to save time by not having to fill out a paper form at the immigration counter. Using the online form is voluntary and actual application itself is still at the airport. It also doesn't make more or less of a difference to immigration whether you were born in Mainland China or not (although most ex-citizens in Canada usually have a Q2 visa since they visit China regularly).

Thank you for answering my question! I still have a few questions about the 144 hr visa free transit policy. My travel route should be qualify to apply for the 144 hrs visa free transit, right? I’m thinking of arriving Shanghai from Singapore on Jan 28 and leave on Feb 2 to Toronto. Can I buy the plane tickets from singapore to shanghai non- stop with no layover or I have to buy ticket with layover at shanghai and then apply for the 144 hr transit and change my plane tickets? And if I ever get denied at the airport, do I get a visa refusal stamp?
