About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

visa free transit

do I have to fly direct non stop to Beijing from London? Or can it be via? Say Amsterdam or Dubai? If my next destination after 72hrs in Beijing, is Hong Kong; does it matter what airline the flight to Hong Kong is on? Is it cheaper easier to have all sectors on one ticket irrespective to airlines? Or can only airlines of the same alliance be on the same ticket? So if there is no same alliance airline available to book between Beijing & Hong Kong, then how does that work?

It's a very simple 3-step process:

1) know whether your immediate destinations (every landing/stopover counts) before and after Mainland China are in different countries or regions. E.g.: US-Shanghai-Canada-US is OK even when your final destination is the US. US-Shanghai-US-Canada is not OK because your immediate destinations are the same country. Keep in mind that Hong Kong and Macau are not parts of Mainland China and are considered third countries.

2) know whether your flight has more than one stop in Mainland China. You will not qualify 99% of the time if your flight has a stop elsewhere in Mainland China before reaching the destination you wish to transit.

3) determine whether your stay exceeds the maximum allowed duration, which starts from the day after arrival except for Harbin and Guilin.
