144 Hour Visa Free Transit

Hi I´m flying to Argentina and plan to make a stop over in Shanghai to visit some friends. Could I know in advance if I'll be granted the 144 hour visa or I will only know when I arrive in Customs? I'm living in Taiwan now so my return flight will be from Taiwan to Buenos Aires, Argentina,

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your prompt and complete answer. My flight itinerary would be:

Taipei- Shanghai-Amsterdan-Sao Pablo-Buenos Aires

The only thing is that I will buy the flights separately.Taipei Shanghai on the one hand and Shanghai-Buenos Aires on the other hand. Would that be ok or it MUST be stated as a connected flight since my first destination?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Of course, you will know whether you are eligible or not for 144 hour visa free transit based on your itinerary. Anyway, at the time being, we know for certain only one portion of your itinerary and that is:

Taiwan - Shanghai...

After that you have written Argentina, but as both of us know, there are no direct flights between Shanghai and Argentina and that implies that you will have some other landings until you reach Argentina. To be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, after your arrival from Taiwan to Shanghai, you will have to have a flight that will take you out of Shanghai, but that flight is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China and in Taiwan. In other words, your flight itinerary, to be eligible could look like this (just a sample):

Taiwan - Shanghai - Dubai - Buenos Aires

As you can see, this third country is essential for your eligibility for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area. If you want, you can present us your entire itinerary and you will definitely receive a correct and reliable answer.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible and the fact that you will travel on separate tickets is perfectly accepted as normal as it always was. You are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area. You should just print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. Just enjoy your travel :)
