About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Stockholm - Shanghai - Hongkong - Shanghai - Stockholm

We just bought tickets to Shanghai, 9 days. We are planning to fly to Hongkong while in Shanghai, according to the following schedule:

Stockholm - Shanghai
Stay 2 nights in Shanghai, then

Shanghai - Hongkong
Stay 5 nights in Hongkong, then

Hongkong - Shanghai
Stay 1 night in Shanghai, then

Shanghai - Stockholm

Sorry if I missed something, but are we eligible for 72h visa-free transit both our stays in Shanghai or just the first one? Or none? What should we do if the second stay is not eligible? Thank you in advance!

Assuming Swedish passports, you are eligible for 24 or 144 hours visa-free transit for both entries to China. Which one you are given just depends on the length of your stay, you don't get a choice. 72 hours doesn't exist any more.

Yes, Swedish passports. So assuming the information I provided is correct, we don't need to apply for visas for either of the entires (the first one coming from Stockholm and the second one after returning from Hongkong). We just need to request the 24/144h visa-free transit before bording the planes at the airports in Stockholm and Hongkong respectively, is this correct?

Yes, this is definitely correct. Just one detail. During your first stop in Shanghai, you will definitely enjoy 144 hour visa free transit, but you have to count your entire transit time for your second stop to be able to tell exactly whether will you travel on 24 or 144 hour visa free transit for your second stop in Shanghai. Nothing complicated, but just to be precise. By the way, you definitely don't need any kind of visa!
