About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Complicated travel plans involving HK, cruise ship, Shanghai

Will fly into HK on January 30th - planning to go to HK DL on the 31st. Embark on a cruise ship on February 1st. Will visit Manilla, Taiwan (2 stops), Japan (2 stops), South Korea and then disembark in Shanghai on February 15. Plan to visit Shanghai DL on 15th and leave by plan on Feb 16. what kind of visa for China should I get. TIA for any info!!

Believe it or not, this is not complicated at all :)

- Assuming that you will arrive to Hong Kong by direct flight from US or some other origin, you don't need any kind of visa because US citizens simply don't need one for this city.

- All the following countries and territories also don't require a visa.

- Your stay in Shanghai, assuming that you will stay there (the transit time is calculated from your scheduled arrival in Shanghai, until you scheduled departure from Shanghai) for a bit more than 24 hours, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you again don't need any kind of visa. You will just print out your flight ticket from Shanghai to US or to your alternative destination and you will present it to the Chinese authorities upon your arrival in Shanghai. One more, but very important detail... Your flight from Shanghai to your next destination is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China of any kind and in South Korea too.
