About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

12 hour stay

I’m a UK Citizen travelling to Australia this December on China Eastern, I have a 12 hour stopover in Shanghai and would love to take the opportunity to go see the city for a short time. Is this eligible for visa free entry?

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Anyway, to be allowed to exit the airport, you will have to apply for a temporary entry permit upon your landing in Shanghai. You will do that at 24 hour visa free transit counter that you will easily find. You have to know that the issuing of the permit depends entirely upon immigration authorities discretion. Your chances to be allowed to exit the airport are very good.
